CGHS for Government Employees

The Central Govt. Health Scheme provides comprehensive health care to the CGHS Beneficiaries including retirees and their dependents (sons upto Age 25 if not married or working).

The medical facilities are provided through Wellness Centres(previously referred to as CGHS Dispensaries) /polyclinics under Allopathic, Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidha and Homeopathic systems of medicines.

Private Health Insurance for Senior Citizens.

If you are not a central govt employee, you can look at private health insurance options. Please check the maximum age of signup and age of coverage prior to signing up for private insurance. Some insurance companies only provide protection till 70-75 years of age. So you should select plans that are catered specifically for senior citizens and check if plans offers hospitalisation expenses, ambulance charges and prepost hospitalisation expenses

Policy Benefits
Hospitalisation Cover Protects the insured for in patient hospitalisation expenses for a minimum of 24 hrs.These expenses include room rent,nursing and boarding charges, Surgeon, Anaesthetist, Medical Practitioner, Consultants, Specialist Fees,Cost of Medicines and Drugs upto the limits specified.
Ambulance charges for emergency transportation to hospital as per specified limits.
Post-hospitalisation paid as lump-sum upto the limit specified.
Specific day-care procedures covered.
Sub-limits applicable for specified illness.
Co-Payment : 30% for other than claims for Pre-Existing Diseases and 50% for Pre-Existing Diseases claims.

Pre-Existing Diseases / Illness :
Are covered after 12months of continuous Insurance with any Indian Insurance Company where the person has been availing treatment for the diseases.

Pre- Acceptance medical screening:
There is no pre-acceptance medical screening.

Entry of Age: 46 yrs to 75 years
Renewals upto: 75 years
Preexisting Disease: After 1 years
Sum Assured: 50,000- 5 lakhs
Other details:0% co-payment the admissible claims to be paid by the member if treatment is taken in a hospital other than a network hospital. Waiver of co-payment is available on payment of additional premium.

Apollo Munich Insurance Optima Senior

Entry age: from the age of 61 years above.
Renewals upto: Lifelong
Preexisting Disease: After 3 years
2 years waiting period for specific diseases like cataract, hernia, joint replacement surgeries, surgery of hydrocele etc.

Comprehensive cover Options of Rs 2 Lakh & Rs 3 Lak
Details: 20% copayment for insurer above 65 years.Compulsory Reducing Co-Payment above the age of 65 Yrs: Reducing co-pay starts at 20% and reduces by 5% for each continuous year of cover. For e.g. if a customer has a continues coverage of 3 years prior to commencement of 65th yrs of age, then the co-payment applicable at the age of 65 yrs shall be 5% and 66th yr of age onwards co-payment shall be nil.

Entry age: 61-80 years
Renewals: Lifelong
Sum assured: Rs 50,000- 3 lakhs
Details: 20% claim amount to be borne by insurer

New India Assurance company Senior Citizen Mediclaim Policy

Entry age: 60-80 years
Renewals: upto 90
Preexisting disease: After 18 months
Sum assured: Rs 1 lakh-1.5 lakhs
Details: 10% extra basic premium plan to cover BP and diabetes
